My Summer at Time
Posted on 24. Aug, 2008 by JC in Blog Posts
- It’s been a fruitful couple of months for me back at Time. For this week’s issue (cover at left) I wrote a piece about micro-lit, and recorded a brief podcast on the subject. Prior to that, I wrote stories about a historic congressional election in Colorado and about how technology is impacting the world of politics.
- I enjoyed writing earlier in the summer about a start-up spice company with a radical new idea, and a piece assessing this year’s most innovative new food products, called the 12 Tastiest New Foods. As an add-on to that, it was fun putting together some audio highlights with Time.com producer Caitlin Thompson, which we called A Weird and Delicious World.
- On the technology front, I covered the best and worst of the new iPhone applications, along with a short podcast, and wrote about new tools that let you broadcast from your cell phone.
- I also got to interview some fascinating people this summer, including Barbara Ehrenreich, who minced no words discussing her sharp new book of essays. Here’s an extended audio version of the conversation. The most amusing interview subject was Steve Dunblanica, author of a new book called Waiter Rant, who shared some juicy restaurant secrets collected during his career waiting tables.

My youngest interview subject this summer was Jacob Goddard, 13, who lives on a gorgeous ranch in Montana. With beautiful photographs from Kenneth Jarecke, we put together a narrated slideshow called The Life of a Teenage Cowboy.
